Times Aren’t the Only Thing That Are Changing

All women know our bodies are constantly changing; it seems like something is always moving or stretching, bloated or sore, and don’t get us started on the hair. So, naturally, since we are so accustomed to never-ending changes, we can handle it when (and where) we least expect it, right?

Right?

Err, maybe not, especially when those changes negatively impact the vaginal area. Changes in the vaginal area, such as vaginal laxity and dryness, develop over time as a result of pregnancy, childbirth, weight fluctuations, menopause and the aging process. These changes can often leave women feeling self-conscious, confused and in need of answers.

What Is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation can mean a few different things and different things to many women. Vaginal rejuvenation is a catchall term for both surgical and nonsurgical procedures designed to tighten the vaginal canal and reshape the vulva.

Procedures considered part of vaginal rejuvenation treatment includes surgical procedures, such as:

Labiaplasty: The surgical reduction of the inner labia minora or outer labia majora
Vaginoplasty: A surgical fix to repair vaginal laxity that involves the removal of excess tissue, reconstructing and tightening the vaginal wall with sutures
Clitoral Hood Reduction: The surgical removal of extra skin surrounding the clitoral hood
Labia Majoraplasty: Reduction of the outer labia majora
Monsplasty: The procedure removes excess skin and fat from the mons pubis, the frontal part of the pelvic area where pubic hair grows

Vaginal rejuvenation can also include nonsurgical procedures, too. These treatments are:

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation: This type of vaginal rejuvenation therapy uses laser therapy to induce collagen production, which tightens the vaginal tissues and vaginal wall
Radiofrequency Vaginal Rejuvenation: Instead of a laser, this procedure uses radiofrequency energy to increase collagen production to rejuvenate the vagina
