Ready for Summer? Find Out Now

It may seem like spring has barely started, but we assure you, pool season is just around the corner. In one of our recent blogs we talked about eliminating hair around the bikini line and other areas. Now we want to talk about another way to get swimsuit ready this season.

Do you find yourself wearing a bathing suit with a skirt attached? Board shorts instead of bikini bottoms? Or are you avoiding the pool altogether because you are self-conscious about your labia? You're not alone. Many women are opting to have labia reduction and reshaping procedures because they are uncomfortable with the appearance of their genitals.

What Is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic laser or surgical procedure that reshapes or resizes the inner labia, called the labia minora. The procedure can also be used to reshape the outer labia majora.

Why Do Women Choose to Have the Labiaplasty Procedure?

Some women are born with naturally long labia, while others may have their labia stretched or damaged during childbirth. Long and misshapen labia can be a source of self-consciousness and embarrassment for some women, especially when wearing tight clothing like swimwear.

How Is Labiaplasty Performed?

Dr. Alqulali performs the labiaplasty procedure using a laser to remove excess tissue. Laser labiaplasty uses a local anesthetic to numb the area. Labiaplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure in about an hour.

What Should I Expect During Recovery from Labiaplasty?

Although Dr. Alqulali uses lasers to perform the procedure, there are some post-procedure side effects to be aware of, including pain, bruising and swelling. Although these side effects are short-lived and resolve in just a few weeks, it is still important to mention so you know what to expect during recovery.

Patients should also avoid using tampons for four to six weeks after surgery, and no sexual intercourse for at least six weeks after the procedure.

Also, be sure to avoid tight-fitting clothing for several weeks after your procedure to encourage healing, but don't worry! In just a few weeks you will be ready for the beach or pool.
