Breast Augmentation Recovery Tips

Are you considering a breast augmentation but have not scheduled your consultation with Dr. Alqulali because you're afraid of the recovery? If this is the case, have no fear - with a little planning before your procedure, your recovery will be smooth sailing.

Four Tips for Recovering From Breast Augmentation Surgery

1. Schedule help. The breast augmentation procedure is major surgery, so you should expect to rest completely for at least the first three to five days following your procedure. You will also need to take it easy for a few weeks after your procedure. This means no heavy lifting (even of children over 20 pounds) for at least six weeks. Schedule friends and family to help around the house with chores, errands and child care until you are fully recovered.

Other cautions include avoiding driving until you've finished any prescribed pain medication.

2. Stock up. Stock up on food, snacks and water before your procedure. Prepare meals beforehand that are easy to heat and eat, and make space for snacks on your nightstand that you can grab if you are hungry but can't get up on your own in the days immediately following your surgery. Drink plenty of water to help flush out extra fluid and reduce post-surgery swelling.

Also grab some of your favorite books and magazines, and find a new series to binge-watch on Netflix while you convalesce.

3. Manage pain. After your breast augmentation procedure, you will feel soreness, swelling and discomfort. You will be prescribed a pain reliever to reduce pain and swelling. It is not unusual to feel as if you don't need the pain relievers, but take the medication on schedule for the first few days - it is easier to manage pain with consistent use of pain relievers than it is to stop the pain if you have been off your medication routine. Many patients find that they can manage their pain using over-the-counter pain relievers, too.

4. Schedule (and keep) your post-procedure checkups. One of the key points that contribute to your healing is attending your checkups with Dr. Alqulali after your breast surgery. During your checkup, Dr. Alqulali will make sure you are healing properly and that your new breasts look great.

If you have concerns about how you are healing before your checkup or at any time, called Infinity Medical at 888-716-0559 to schedule an appointment to discuss your concerns.
